India’s Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 strictly prohibits the poaching of baby elephants and many other activities frequently undertaken by cruel elephant owners!
- Section 9 calls for a punishment of incarceration for up to 7 years for poaching elephants from the wild.
- Section 429 states whoever kills, poisons, maims or renders useless, any elephant shall be punished with imprisonment of up to 5 years and pay a substantial fine.
