Demand enforcement of India’s strong elephant protection laws

India’s Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 strictly prohibits the poaching of baby elephants and many other activities frequently undertaken by cruel elephant owners!

  • Section 9 calls for a punishment of incarceration for up to 7 years for poaching elephants from the wild.
  • Section 429 states whoever kills, poisons, maims or renders useless, any elephant shall be punished with imprisonment of up to 5 years and pay a substantial fine.
